Implementation Science Hub

AMETHIST @ PENN

Achieving Maternal Equity and Transforming Health through Implementation Science and Training Implementation Science Hub at the University of Pennsylvania (AMETHIST@Penn) works to bring research findings into community settings and clinical practices. The Amethist@Penn team includes more than 50 investigators and staff members, and multiple partnering centers at the University of Pennsylvania. The Hub seeks to advance maternal health equity by facilitating implementation research that centers the needs and perspectives of patients, communities, and populations with health disparities. The Hub will offer training and career development opportunities in implementation science to Research Centers’ affiliates.

Implementation Science Hub

Overarching Goals

Advise IMPROVE initiative investigators in engaging diverse and marginalized communities.

Guide the process of implementation research including the selection of theories, models, frameworks, strategies, and outcomes.

Accelerate implementation skills development in emerging and established maternal health scientists.

Advance knowledge about successfully conducting implementation research.

How We Support Research

The Implementation Science Hub will support Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence and other IMPROVE investigators in five areas:

  • Administration, Leadership, and Evaluation
  • Equity, Community and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Design, Methods, and Analysis
  • Policy, Dissemination, and Communication
  • Training and Capacity Building

“While there have been great strides and increased focus in advancing our understanding of maternal health, especially in the last few years, without the ability to integrate our knowledge and findings into practice, there is no benefit to patients. This is why implementation science is so important—it helps ramp up the pathway from research to clinical care.”
